(Poetry) Ouroboros

Oh, Ouroboros,
What a mystery you are.
Why do you bite your own tail?

Do you not feel the pain?
Do you fail to comprehend
where you stop and where you start?

Would you still rend yourself apart,
if only you knew
how beautiful you are?

Oh, how your scales shimmer
in the morning light,
and glisten in the evening rain…

An iridescent sheen
entwined with deepest black…
or is it gray?

Your hues are ever-changing,
but deep down in your core,
your heart remains the same.

So why do you act this way?
Why can’t you see
that this foe you fight is imaginary?

If you would just unclench your teeth,
then maybe we could be free
from this loop of senseless tragedy.
