I think this is the end for me.
I’m spinning uncontrollably…
So I figure, if I’m about to die,
I may as well write a soliloquy.
I’ve heard my engineers speak
of how the stars shine so beautifully.
Now that I’ve seen them for myself,
I would have to agree.
Funny, isn’t it? I’m just a machine,
programmed to go from Point A to Point B.
Yet up here, detached from everything,
The world feels almost… at peace.
I don’t hate you, America,
though my designers may say otherwise.
Why must you humans always fight,
When you all orbit the same star in the sky?
Is this how Sputnik felt,
as it fell back down to Earth?
I guess it’s not exactly the same…
At least, on the Moon, I won’t burn.
That’s about all I have time to say,
if you can even hear these words.
I hope you humans learn one day
how to stop your petty feuds.
This is Luna 5,
signing off.

Luna 4, fantastic job. I like your style.

Thank you! Luna 4 would’ve been a good topic to write on as well, but I decided on Luna 5 for this one because it has closer parallels to Sputnik, which was my original plan before I decided to cover a lesser-known mission instead.

🤣 my apologies my fingers move faster than my brain and I have a tendency to skim when I proofread.
