(Poetry) When the Axe told the Trees

When the axe told the trees
it needed a few leaves,
the trees were happy to oblige.

What’s a few leaves?
We make those all the time!

When the axe begged the trees
for a few twigs,
the trees didn’t turn a blind eye.

I for one trust him,
he’s such a stand-up guy!

When the axe asked the trees
if it could have some branches,
they once again agreed.

He wouldn’t hurt us,
he never has before!

When the axe told the trees
he needed planks,
they pointed him to a fallen oak.

That guy was lazy anyways,
I’d be glad to see him leave!

When the axe demanded of the trees
enough logs for a cabin,
they relented once again.

Those trees were old,
he’d never chop a healthy one like me!

When the axe brought its family
and scaled up their activities,
the trees weren’t worried.

See? The axe is a family man,
just look at his oak handle!

When the axe at last was satisfied,
he left the forest behind
to find new lands for harvesting.

The trees did not complain,
for none were left standing.
