(Poetry) Leshy’s Guide to Wildlife Watching

Who dares enters my forest?
Is it you?
What do you want, a tour?
…wait, really?
Well, if you insist…
but I must warn you, my guest…
stay close to me,
or you will never leave.

Watch your step,
don’t disturb the trees
in this glade.
They don’t like your kind,
not since your kin came around
with your axes and blades…
give them some mulch,
then they won’t mind you as much.

See that squirrel up there?
That’s no ordinary squirrel.
That girl is Ratatoskr,
the gossiper.
She’s on vacation right now,
but oh boy,
has she some stories to tell,
if only you’ll stay to listen.

Now if you’ll look to your left,
you’ll see the deer and the antelope grazing.
Frightful lot to be sure,
but wonderful once you get to know them.
Don’t mind the cow,
she’s with them.
Wandered off from her enclosure,
now she’s part of the herd.
You won’t tell Farmer Wilhelm, right?

To your right, you see that rock?
That’s actually a Phoenix egg.
I know what you’re thinking…
How could that possibly be an egg?
That’s the beauty of it.
Everybody covets hawk and chicken eggs,
but nobody ever thinks to check the rocks…
and with me around to watch it,
there’s nothing to worry about.

I may have said too much…
but I know you won’t tell.
You can’t.
What’s that?
You have to go?
I didn’t say you could leave.
You’re my precious guest!
You wanted to be here…
didn’t you?
So stay with me…
for eternity.
