(Poetry) Silent Observer

O great Moon,
You of stoic face,
How do you perceive us
in this, our hour of disgrace?

Older than life itself,
you’ve known our world
since it was but a shell
of rock and lava swirled.

You watched, quietly,
as the dinosaurs died off.
Now you watch as we squabble,
as we scoff at the natural order.

Do you think we’ll be alright?
Do you even really care?
Or are you secretly hoping
we’ll be out of your hair?

I wouldn’t blame you, if so,
knowing the chaos we’ve sown.
I just hope you’ll remember
our highs as well as our lows.
